And I walked along the shore,  Looking for the old ferryman,  From the yonder days of yore,  Upon my arrival I asked him to take me across,  The bogy black lake’  Then I said to him “what will be the cost?”  I gave him five pounds,  He spun a pole around me twice,  So I said politely “what ever is that for?”  He mumbled to himself “yes that will suffice.”  As soon as he fear....

Modern woman

We honor the women who broke through the wall,
Which allowed their daughters to stand up tall,
To hold their high and heed the call,
To follow the dream and have it all.

Our rungs on the ladder we did install.
We had everything; we were caught in the thrall.
But the richness of family was starting to stall.
Some wanted to speak, but they hadn’t the gall.

Now the children have suffered, since we dropped the ball.
Their cribs are the daycare, the school and the mall.
The home and hearth we must recall
So the loss of the village we can forestall.

We can lessen the pain, but we can’t stop the fall.
When the dust settles down and we see through the pall
To the light at the end of the long twisting hall,
We will sail safely through this societal squall.
